I went to State University of New York at Stony Brook for my undergraduate studies in Physics and then to Columbia University where I received my PhD in Astronomy in 1986. I spent two years at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center working as a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow before joining the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University in 1988.
